I have been in this business for 25 years. I started out working in a Carvel store as a teenager. I fell in love with the business and convinced my parents to open a carvel store. I love this business for many reasons. I love that everything is made here, it keeps me busy and I love to make people happy. Let’s face it ice cream does have that effect.

Being in business with my parents brought me closer to them. My father became my best friend. We would drive in together to Brooklyn early every morning, to make the ice cream deliveries to the schools. My mom would come in later, bring us lunch, help out and drive home with my Dad.

I learned a lot from my Father. He was such a great guy. He loved to talk to the customers, tell them jokes. He always told me, “Give them a smile, some conversation and great, fresh products and they will be back.”

My father died in this store, so it’s no wonder I take my business so serious. Working so closely with him all those years, made it very hard to come back here on my own. His funeral was on Father’s Day, the busiest day of the year. Some may say it was “Heartless” of me to come back to work after the funeral, but I know he would have wanted me in my store that day, so I worked with tears rolling down my face.

So here I am. My mother still comes in on Sundays her bad knees keep her home most days. My wife comes in with me now. Sometimes, the three of us come in together. We are all very close, wouldn’t want it any other way!
